EU considers major overhaul of free carbon permits for industry

The European Commission is considering a revamp of the system of free CO2 permits within the European Union
EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), according to an internal document. This move, which is currently under discussion, would alter how industries and power plants are shielded from carbon costs and reshape the bloc’s pathway toward its 2040 emissions target.
