India Central Bank Approves Emirates NBD Stake in RBL Bank
The Reserve Bank of India today approved Emirates NBD Bank's proposal to buy a 60% stake in RBL Bank for $3 billion. The deal is a key cross-border move.
The central bank of India has officially granted approval for EMIRATES NBD PJSC to acquire a majority stake in RBL BANK LTD. The Mumbai-based lender confirmed the regulatory clearance on Thursday, marking a significant milestone for one of the largest cross-border transactions ever recorded in the country's financial industry.

Under the terms of the proposal first announced in October last year, the Dubai-based banking group plans to purchase a 60% stake in the Indian institution. The deal is valued at approximately $3 billion. This acquisition follows a period of strategic expansion by the Middle Eastern lender as it seeks to strengthen its footprint in the rapidly growing South Asian market.
The approval from the Reserve Bank of India provides the necessary regulatory backing for the deal to proceed toward finalization. RBL Bank, which has been seeking capital to bolster its balance sheet and expand its operations, is expected to benefit from the technical expertise and global network of its new majority owner.
