Musk announces SpaceX and Tesla chip plants in Austin

Elon Musk has announced that SpaceX and Tesla, Inc. will construct two advanced semiconductor manufacturing facilities at a sprawling site in Austin, Texas. The project, which Musk referred to as "Terafab," is designed to secure the supply chain for his various technology ventures. One of the factories will be dedicated to producing chips for electric vehicles and humanoid robots, while the second will focus on hardware for artificial intelligence data centers operating in orbit.

"Terafab will technically be two fabs, each making only one chip design."
