Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren has formally requested that a senior Federal Reserve official explain his strategy for managing potential conflicts of interest following his transition from private legal practice to a powerful regulatory role.

In a letter reviewed on Wednesday, Warren pressed Randall Guynn, a former veteran Wall Street bank attorney, on his new responsibilities within the central bank. Guynn was recently appointed to a position focused on policing the financial industry, where he reports directly to Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman.

Guynn's appointment has drawn scrutiny due to his 40-year tenure at the law firm Davis Polk, where he represented some of the largest banking institutions in the United States. His current role is situated within the Fed's supervision and regulation division, which is tasked with broad oversight of the banking sector, including the establishment of rules and the examination of the nation's most complex financial entities.

A spokesperson for the Federal Reserve confirmed that the agency has received the senator's inquiry but declined to provide further details or a formal response at this time.
