Eli Lilly to invest $3 billion in its China operations
Eli Lilly plans to expand its supply chain and produce a new obesity treatment in China. The investment aims to build local production over the next decade.
Eli Lilly and Company has announced plans to invest $3 billion in China over the next decade, according to a statement from the pharmaceutical giant. This significant capital commitment is intended to expand the company's supply chain capacity and establish localized production for orforglipron, an oral treatment currently under development for type-2 diabetes and obesity. The company confirmed that it submitted a marketing application for orforglipron to the Chinese drug regulator at the end of 2025. In addition to the production of new metabolic treatments, the investment will facilitate the creation of a localized manufacturing and supply system for oral solid dosage forms. This long-term initiative underscores the company's focus on strengthening its operational infrastructure and ensuring a stable supply of medications within the region.
