Eli Lilly to Acquire Kelonia Therapeutics for $7 Billion
Eli Lilly will buy Kelonia Therapeutics for up to $7 billion to boost its oncology pipeline. The deal includes a $3.25 billion upfront payment for CAR-T work.
The United States pharmaceutical leader ELI LILLY & CO has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Kelonia Therapeutics, a private biotechnology company, for a total consideration of up to $7 billion. This acquisition is aimed at strengthening the oncology pipeline of Eli Lilly through the addition of advanced experimental cancer therapies. Kelonia Therapeutics, which operates out of Boston, specializes in genetic medicine with a specific concentration on CAR-T cell therapies. This technology involves the modification of a patient's own immune cells to better identify and eliminate cancer cells. The integration of Kelonia's research is expected to provide Eli Lilly with a robust platform for future cancer treatments. The financial terms of the deal specify that Kelonia shareholders will receive an initial cash payment of $3.25 billion. The remaining portion of the $7 billion valuation is tied to the successful completion of clinical, regulatory, and commercial milestones. The acquisition is anticipated to be finalized in the second half of 2026, subject to the fulfillment of customary closing conditions and necessary regulatory clearances.
