Eramet Top Shareholder Considers Sale of 37 Percent Stake
The Duval family is exploring a sale of its 37 percent stake in Eramet. The move precedes a planned capital raise as the mining group faces a management crisis.
The Duval family, the largest shareholder in the French mining group ERAMET, is reportedly exploring a sale of its stake as the company prepares for a significant capital injection. According to reports from the Financial Times, the family has appointed investment bank Lazard to evaluate options for its 37% holding in the company, which is headquartered in France. This strategic review comes ahead of a looming $500 million capital raise aimed at stabilizing the miner's balance sheet.
The metallurgical group previously announced plans in February to increase capital and sell assets to improve liquidity following a substantial decline in annual earnings. The company is also navigating a period of executive instability, having recently dismissed its former chief executive and suspended its finance chief. These leadership changes have added pressure to the group as it attempts to shore up cash reserves amid a challenging fiscal environment.
While the Duval family has not publicly commented on the potential divestment, the move signals a possible shift in the ownership structure of one of the region's prominent mining entities. The company continues to focus on restructuring efforts to mitigate the impact of recent financial losses and management changes, though the outcome of the Duval family's evaluation remains uncertain.
