Donald Trump Dismisses Dollar Decline as Currency Markets Face Volatility
President Donald Trump dismissed recent dollar weakness as traders intensified selling of the currency. The move pushed major currencies like the euro and pound to multi-year highs today.
President donald trump has publicly dismissed the recent slide of the
US dollar, stating the currency’s value "was great" in comments that traders viewed as a prompt to accelerate dollar selling. While the dollar steadied on Wednesday, it remains on track for its steepest weekly fall since the market turmoil of last April. The dollar index was recently quoted at 96.114, up 0.22% on the day, but it has lost nearly 2.8% since the prior Wednesday as global markets react to the shifting rhetoric.
The current weakness follows a difficult period for the greenback, which tumbled more than 9% over 2025 and dropped an additional 2.3% in January. This downward trend has propelled other currencies to significant peaks. The euro topped the $1.20 level for the first time since 2021, though it retreated slightly during the session. The currency fell as much as 0.56% to a session low of $1.197025 and was last trading at $1.19873, down 0.4% for the day. Despite this daily decline, the euro remains on track for a 2% gain this month.
