India is facing a significant shortage of Diet Coke as the ongoing conflict involving Iran disrupts the supply of aluminum cans. The shortage stems from delayed shipments originating in the Gulf region, where a de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has trapped approximately 9% of global aluminum production since late February. While most carbonated beverages in the Indian market are available in both plastic bottles and aluminum cans, Diet Coke is sold exclusively in cans, making it uniquely vulnerable to these supply chain interruptions.
