Delta Air Lines Orders 34 Additional Airbus A321neo Jets
Delta ordered 34 more Airbus A321neo jets on Friday to refresh its fleet. The move focuses on fuel efficiency and expanding premium seat capacity starting in 2029.
Delta Air Lines, Inc. has announced an order for 34 additional Airbus SE A321neo aircraft as part of its ongoing fleet renewal program in the United States. The carrier aims to modernize its operations with fuel-efficient jets that offer a higher proportion of premium seating, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2029.
This latest deal increases the airline's total commitment for the A321neo to 189 aircraft. The company currently operates 92 of these narrowbody jets and has 97 more on firm order, while holding options for an additional 36 units. The A321neo is expected to be a key component of the airline's strategy for domestic and short-haul international routes.

The transaction represents the third major aircraft announcement for the Atlanta-based carrier this year. In January, the airline ordered 30 787-10 jets from The Boeing Company, followed by an order for 31 Airbus widebody planes. Like other major carriers, the airline is focusing on newer, more efficient jets with expanded premium cabin capacity. Management has indicated that most of its planned seat capacity growth will come from these higher-priced segments rather than the main cabin.
According to the airline, the A321neo provides the lowest operating cost per seat among its narrowbody aircraft and features more first-class and extra-legroom seats than any other single-aisle jet in its fleet. These new aircraft will be powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, manufactured by RTX Corporation.
