Dangote raises Ethiopia fertiliser investment to $4B
Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has expanded the scope of a fertiliser project in Ethiopia to include a power plant and pipeline. The facility aims to produce 3 million metric tons of urea annually to reduce regional import reliance.
Dangote Group increased its planned investment in an Ethiopia fertilizer plant to over $4 billion. The new commitment represents a $1.5 billion jump from the $2.5 billion figure announced last year. The expansion aligns with Aliko Dangote's goal to eliminate the reliance of Nigeria and the broader continent on fertilizer imports.
### Expanded Scope Drives Capital Commitment The project now includes a 110 km pipeline and a 120 megawatt power plant to support operations. Dangote Group confirmed on its X account on Sunday that the site will also house a 2 million ton NPK blending plant and a polypropylene packaging facility. Aliko Dangote visited the construction site on Sunday to assess progress alongside Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
