The national electric grid in Cuba collapsed on Saturday for the second time in a week, according to government officials. This latest failure leaves approximately 10 million people without power as the communist administration struggles to maintain a deteriorating infrastructure under the pressure of a United States oil blockade. The state-run utility Union Electrica announced the failure on social media, noting the timing of the event.
At 18:32 (2232 GMT), a total disconnection of the National Electric Power System occurred.
