The government of China has formally cautioned against a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, stating that such measures would undermine global stability and run contrary to international interests. This diplomatic warning follows a declaration from the United States military that it will commence a blockade of all maritime traffic to and from ports in Iran on Monday. The move comes after high-level negotiations in Pakistan failed to secure a resolution to the ongoing conflict over the weekend.

The Strait of Hormuz serves as a vital corridor for the global energy trade, facilitating the movement of approximately one-fifth of the world's supply of Brent Crude Oil, West Texas Oil, and Natural Gas. Prior to the escalation of the war, a significant portion of Iranian oil exports was destined for the Chinese market, which remains the world's largest importer of crude.

During a meeting in Beijing on Monday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed his concerns to Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, the special envoy of the United Arab Emirates President for China. Wang emphasized that the international community shares a common interest in maintaining open navigation.

The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz does not serve the common interests of the international community.

Wang added that China recognizes the legitimate security concerns of Gulf Arab states but maintains that a political and diplomatic solution is the only path toward a lasting ceasefire.

At a regular press briefing, foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun urged all involved parties to maintain restraint and respect existing temporary ceasefire arrangements to prevent further hostilities.

China stood ready to play a positive and constructive role in resolving the crisis.

Guo also addressed reports suggesting that China might supply weapons to the Iranian military, dismissing them as malicious associations. These comments follow a recent ultimatum from the U.S. administration threatening 50% tariffs on any nation providing military support to Tehran. The U.S. Central Command is expected to begin enforcing the maritime blockade at 10 a.m. ET on Monday, effectively isolating Iranian coastal areas from global trade.
