China and UAE Strengthen Energy Ties and Citizen Safety

China is seeking to deepen its strategic energy partnership with the United Arab Emirates following high-level discussions in Beijing. Premier Li Qiang met with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday to reinforce bilateral ties and explore new avenues for economic cooperation. During the talks, Li highlighted the potential for expanding beyond traditional energy sectors. According to reports from state broadcaster CCTV, the Premier expressed a desire to strengthen the foundation of existing energy trade while actively pursuing collaboration in energy storage, hydrogen energy, and the production of new energy vehicles. The meeting also addressed security concerns regarding the safety of Chinese interests abroad. Li urged the Emirati government to take decisive steps to ensure the protection of Chinese citizens, institutions, and infrastructure projects within its borders. These remarks come in the context of broader regional instability involving Iran.
