China Property Loans Decline 3.4 Percent in March
Outstanding property loans in China reached 51.7 trillion yuan at the end of March. Individual mortgages and development loans both saw year-on-year decreases.
The People's Bank of China (PBoC) reported outstanding property loans fell 3.4% year-on-year to 51.7 trillion yuan ($7.57 trillion) in late March. This decline includes a 3.1% drop in individual mortgages and a 5.1% contraction in property development lending. Sustained deleveraging in the property sector signals continued pressure on China's economic growth and USD/CNH stability.
### Mortgage and Development Lending Contraction The PBoC data shows individual mortgage loans reached 36.72 trillion yuan by late March. This represents a 3.1% decrease from the same period in 2025, reflecting cooling demand for residential housing.
