The mBridge platform has processed over $55.5 billion in cumulative cross-border transactions as of January 2026, representing a significant 2,500-fold increase since the project began testing in 2022. According to a recent report from the Atlantic Council authored by Alisha Chhangani alisha chhangani, the system has facilitated more than 4,000 cross-border transactions. This surge highlights the development of alternative payment settlement infrastructures designed to reduce global reliance on systems dependent on the US Dollar / Chinese Yuan .
The Digital Yuan (e-CNY) remains the dominant currency on the platform, accounting for approximately 95% of the total transaction volume. In the broader landscape, the Digital Yuan (e-CNY) processed more than 3.4 billion transactions worth roughly 16.7 trillion yuan, or $2.4 trillion, throughout 2025. This performance represents an 800% leap from 2023 figures and reinforces its status as the world's largest live central bank digital currency experiment. Chinese state media previously reported that the Digital Yuan (e-CNY)would begin paying interest to holders in digital bank accounts or wallets starting in 2024 to boost usage.
