China Criticizes Proposed US Chip Equipment Legislation
Beijing is pushing back against the proposed MATCH Act which aims to restrict Chinese chipmakers from accessing critical AI semiconductor equipment. Chinese officials have prepared countermeasures and raised the issue with diplomats ahead of a high-profile meeting between President Trump and President Xi.
China is escalating diplomatic pressure against the United States over the MATCH Act, a proposed bill designed to block Chinese access to AI chipmaking equipment. The House Foreign Affairs committee advanced the legislation 36 to 8 in late April following months of lobbying by domestic firms. Investors face heightened geopolitical risk as Beijing prepares trade countermeasures that could target global semiconductor equipment suppliers and U.S. manufacturers.
### Beijing Signals Diplomatic Resistance Chinese officials summoned U.S. embassy diplomats to protest the proposed legislation ahead of a summit between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping. Ryan Fedasiuk, a former U.S. State Department adviser, said Beijing understands its chip industry is vulnerable to American export controls. The Trump-Xi summit marks the first direct discussion between the two leaders since a trade truce last year.
