China claims compliance with US trade deal and warns against new tariffs
Beijing says it has fulfilled its 2020 trade obligations while warning the US against further Section 301 investigations. China vows to defend its interests.
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative
US signaled on February 25, 2026, that it will continue Section 301 investigations that could lead to the imposition of new tariffs. This decision, which involves ongoing probes into trade practices in China
CN and Brazil
BR, was highlighted by Jamieson Greer. The continuation of these investigations and the potential for tariffs are seen as developments that directly affect bilateral trade enforcement and the long-term implementation of the 2020 agreement between the two nations.
In response to the signal from the trade office, China's Commerce Ministry stated that Beijing has successfully met all obligations tied to the 2020 agreement under the Section 301 statute. The ministry warned against the imposition of further tariffs, suggesting such actions would be counterproductive to the progress made through the economic and trade consultation mechanism between China and the United States. The Chinese government maintains that its adherence to the 2020 pact should preclude additional punitive measures.
