CFTC Scraps Plan to Move Into SEC Washington Headquarters
The CFTC scrapped plans to move into SEC offices and will stay in its current headquarters. The agency cited space needs for its growing regulatory workforce.
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) scrapped plans to move into the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) offices, opting to remain in its current headquarters. The decision ends a proposal to consolidate the two regulators as they attempt to harmonize oversight of the digital currency industry. The agency determined that staying in its home of 30 years provides the space needed for a growing workforce and avoids disruption.
### Reversing the Consolidation Strategy The CFTC will award its current landlord a new five-year lease after determining that a previously planned dedicated headquarters was insufficient, according to a contract procurement notice published Friday. This reversal follows a March report that the agency was exploring a move to the SEC’s central Washington offices.
