Canadian Finance Minister begins four-day China visit
Canadian Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne is visiting China to boost trade. He will discuss supply chains and follow up on the PM's January trip.
Canadian Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne is scheduled to visit China from April 1 to April 4, 2026. According to the Chinese Finance Ministry, the four-day trip is intended to foster closer strategic and economic ties between the two nations. This diplomatic mission follows a visit by Prime Minister Mark Carney in January, which was the first trip to the region by a Canadian leader since 2017.
Canada currently counts China as its second-largest single-country trading partner. Economic data indicates that two-way merchandise trade between the nations reached $124.8 billion in 2025. During his visit, Champagne will engage with government officials and business leaders to discuss strategic partnerships and the attraction of new investments.
