Canada trade deficit narrows as US export share hits record low

Statistics Canada reported on February 19, 2026, that the merchandise trade deficit for Canada CACA narrowed to C$1.31 billion in December. Total exports for the month rose to C$65.63 billion, marking a significant period for the nation's trade balance. This development comes as the share of exports destined for the United States USUS fell to its lowest level on record, with the exception of two months during the COVID-19 pandemic.
