Broadcom Sues EU Regulators Over Legal Document Request
Broadcom is suing EU regulators to protect U.S. legal documents. The firm argues the request violates privilege rights following its acquisition of VMware.
BROADCOM INC filed a lawsuit against European Union antitrust regulators on Wednesday to block requests for legal documents involving its U.S. lawyers. The legal challenge at the General Court in Luxembourg follows the company's 2023 acquisition of VMware. This dispute tests the boundaries of legal privilege for non-EU counsel in international antitrust investigations.
### Protecting Legal Professional Privilege Broadcom characterized the filing as a procedural action to safeguard its rights under long-recognized rules on legal professional privilege. Broadcom INC stated it is otherwise cooperating with the European Commission's information requests regarding the VMware deal.
