BII aims for 20 billion dollar investment push
The UK development agency plans to mobilize private capital for climate projects as government aid budgets tighten. New targets focus on coal reduction and women.
The development finance institution of the United Kingdom has announced an ambitious strategy to mobilize $20 billion (15 billion pounds) for climate and poverty-reduction projects over the next five years. British International Investment (BII) plans to deploy 8 billion pounds of its own capital while significantly increasing its reliance on private sector partnerships to bridge the funding gap.
Under the new business model, BII aims to attract one pound of private investment for every pound of its own capital committed. This represents a 40% increase in private sector mobilization compared to the previous five-year period. The shift comes as G7 nations face tightening budgets and a redirection of state funds toward defense spending.
