The British development finance institution, British International Investment (BII), has unveiled a major climate finance initiative valued at 1.1 billion pounds ($1.48 billion). The five-year program, titled British Climate Partners, is designed to mobilize private capital for clean energy projects across rapidly developing Asian economies where coal remains a primary source of power generation.

This initiative arrives at a critical time for global environmental goals. According to BII, industry data indicates that Asia accounted for approximately three-quarters of global coal demand in 2024. This statistic highlights the significant challenge of reducing carbon emissions in regions experiencing high economic growth and increasing electricity needs.
