Luiz Paulo Dias Pereira Filho, a fourth-generation coffee producer in Brazil, is scaling up production of the rare eugenioides species, an ancestor of the common arabica plant. Pereira Filho expects his current harvest to fetch 1 million reais (approximately $190,476) for ten standardized 60-kilogram bags, a valuation nearly 50 times higher than the current market price for arabica beans, which have recently traded near $400 per bag.
