BRB Seeks 637 Million Dollar Loan from Guarantee Fund
Brazilian lender BRB plans to request a 3.3 billion reais loan from the FGC credit guarantee fund. The funds will address losses from Banco Master portfolios.
The Brazilian lender BRB is planning to request a 3.3 billion reais ($637.37 million) loan from the credit guarantee fund of Brazil, known as the FGC, by the end of March. This strategic move aims to bolster the institution's capitalization efforts amid ongoing financial restructuring. BRB, which is under the control of the Federal District government, was previously linked to a proposed acquisition of Banco Master, a lender that was liquidated in November following severe liquidity difficulties.
The bank is currently working to raise a total of 6.6 billion reais to offset losses connected to credit portfolios acquired from Banco Master. Federal investigators have indicated that Banco Master allegedly sold BRB approximately 12.2 billion reais in credit operations that may have been forged. Daniel Vorcaro, the owner of Banco Master, is currently in custody, though he has denied any wrongdoing through his legal counsel.
