Brazil Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said today that deputy Dario Durigan will likely succeed him. Haddad plans to step down before the October elections.
Finance Minister Fernando Haddad of Brazil has identified his deputy, Dario Durigan, as the most likely candidate to succeed him at the head of the ministry. Haddad, who had previously confirmed his intention to step down ahead of the general elections in October, emphasized that while Durigan is the expected choice, the official appointment remains the prerogative of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. During his remarks in Sao Paulo, Haddad praised the professional capabilities and political standing of his current second-in-command. > "Dario has a very good relationship with the president, one of great trust... He is a great public administrator." Durigan currently serves as the Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, a role that has placed him at the center of the administration's economic policy efforts. His potential elevation to the ministerial post suggests a strategy of continuity for the Brazilian government as it nears the end of the current term.
