Brazil Annual Inflation Rises to 4.14 Percent in March
Brazil annual inflation reached 4.14% in March as gasoline prices jumped 4.59% amid geopolitical tensions. The central bank faces risks to its easing cycle.
Consumer price growth in Brazil accelerated more than anticipated in March, driven by rising transportation costs and persistent energy market volatility. According to data released by the statistics agency IBGE on Friday, the 12-month inflation rate climbed to 4.14%, up from 3.81% in February. The figure surpassed the 4.00% median estimate from economists surveyed by Reuters, signaling renewed pressure on the nation's economic outlook.
On a monthly basis, the IPCA consumer price index rose by 0.88%, exceeding the forecast of 0.77%. The transportation sector was the primary contributor to the spike, with gasoline prices jumping 4.59%. This surge in domestic fuel costs follows a period of heightened sensitivity in global energy markets, where benchmarks such as Brent Crude Oil and West Texas Oil have been influenced by rising geopolitical risks.
