BP and union fail to reach deal at Indiana refinery
BP and union leaders failed to reach a deal for the Whiting refinery as a lockout enters its third month. The plant continues to run using contract staff.
BP PLC failed to reach a labor agreement with union leaders on Monday, extending a lockout at its Indiana refinery into a third month. The 440,000-barrel-per-day facility is the largest in the United States Midwest and has been offline for 800 workers since March 19. The stalemate threatens regional fuel supplies as geopolitical tensions continue to pressure global energy markets.
### Leverage and Labor Demands in Whiting Negotiations resumed Monday afternoon but stalled as the United Kingdom-based oil major refused to lift the lockout. BP stated that meaningful discussions on items critical to the refinery's future have not yet occurred. The company maintains that talks will only continue if the current lockout remains in place.
