Barings Limits Private Credit Fund Redemptions to 5%
Barings capped redemptions at its private credit fund at 5% after Q1 withdrawal requests hit 11.3%. The firm will now buy back shares on a pro-rata basis.
Asset manager Barings has implemented a cap on redemptions for its private credit fund following a surge in withdrawal requests during the first quarter of 2026. According to a regulatory filing, investors sought to redeem approximately 11.3% of the fund's shares, prompting the firm to limit redemptions to 5% of total shares.
This move comes as private credit funds grapple with heightened redemption requests from retail investors. Market participants have cited concerns over transparency, asset valuations, and the potential for artificial intelligence-related disruption as primary drivers for the recent capital outflows. Non-traded funds, such as those managed by BARINGS BDC INC, typically offer quarterly liquidity through tender offers that are generally capped at 5% to ensure the stability of the underlying portfolio.
