Bank of Ireland targets higher returns and earnings growth
The lender will return 1.2 billion euros to shareholders despite missing 2025 profit goals. It aims to cut costs and use AI to drive growth through 2028.
Bank of Ireland Group plc has announced a new strategic roadmap through 2028, aiming to increase earnings and accelerate shareholder returns despite reporting a lower-than-expected pretax profit for the 2025 fiscal year. The lender plans to focus on its core market in Ireland while implementing significant cost-cutting measures and integrating artificial intelligence into its operations. During early trading on Monday, shares in the bank fell 3.5%, a decline similar to the 2.7% drop seen by its main rival AIB Group plc, as European banking stocks faced pressure from geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
