Bailey says Bank of England will not rush rate decisions
Governor Andrew Bailey says the Bank of England will not rush rate decisions despite energy price shocks. He cited uncertainty before the April 30 meeting.
Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey has signaled that the central bank will not be pressured into immediate decisions regarding interest rate increases, despite significant economic pressures stemming from the ongoing conflict in Iran. Speaking at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) spring meetings in Washington, Bailey emphasized the complexity of the current economic landscape as global markets react to volatile energy prices.
The Governor noted that while the surge in Brent Crude Oil and Natural Gas prices will inevitably impact consumer costs, the broader implications for the economy remain uncertain. He suggested that rushing to raise rates could be premature given the various factors at play.
