Australia Employment Rises as Jobless Rate Hits 4.3 Percent
Australian employment grew by 48,900 in February driven by part-time roles. The jobless rate rose to 4.3 percent as more people entered the labor force.
The labor market in Australia demonstrated unexpected strength in February as employment figures exceeded forecasts, though the unemployment rate simultaneously edged higher. Data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics revealed a net increase of 48,900 jobs, significantly higher than the 20,000 gain anticipated by market analysts.
This growth was largely supported by a substantial rise in part-time employment, which increased by 79,400 positions. This trend was particularly pronounced among workers aged 65 and older, reflecting a decrease in retirements during the month. Conversely, full-time roles saw a decline of 30,500.
