Australia April Trade Balance Swings Back to Surplus
Australia recorded a trade surplus of A$1.8 billion in April as exports recovered. Higher iron ore and coal shipments helped offset a surge in fuel imports.
Australia returned to a goods trade surplus of A$1.8B ($1.28B) in April as resource exports recovered from weather-related disruptions. The result met market forecasts and reversed a surprise A$1.0B deficit recorded in March. The recovery in iron ore and coal shipments restored the trade balance to its first surplus following the first deficit since 2017.
### Resource Exports Drive Recovery Exports rose 7.2% in April, fueled by a recovery in iron ore and coal shipments. These sectors had previously struggled with output delays caused by adverse weather conditions.
