AUKUS Nations to Deploy Undersea Drones Starting in 2027
The U.S., Britain, and Australia will deploy undersea drones by 2027. This AUKUS project aims to enhance reconnaissance and protect maritime infrastructure.
The United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia will begin delivering co-developed unmanned undersea vehicles (UUVs) in 2027. This initiative, part of the AUKUS defense pact, aims to integrate advanced sensors and weapon systems into a shared maritime drone fleet. The program targets undersea superiority to counter increasing naval competition in the Indo-Pacific region.
### Expanding AUKUS Pillar Two Capabilities U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced the project on Saturday during the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. The program falls under "Pillar Two" of the trilateral agreement, which focuses on high-tech defense sectors including quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and hypersonic technology. Hegseth described the project as a suite of adaptable multi-mission payloads designed to maintain a collective maritime advantage.
