Angola AOAO is currently pursuing a minority stake of between 20% and 30% in the diamond giant De Beers, according to reports from the region. This proposal, which is currently under discussion, would see the stake held on behalf of the government of Angola AOAO by its state-owned mining entities, Endiama and Sodiam. The move comes at a critical juncture for the diamond industry as the parent company, Anglo (Anglo American), has officially put De Beers up for sale and is conducting a comprehensive review of the unit's valuation.
The valuation review by Anglo (Anglo American) follows a significant decline in rough diamond production recorded throughout 2025. This downturn has prompted a strategic reassessment of the diamond business, which also operates in Canada CACA. As part of its efforts to secure a common position among regional producers, Angola AOAO has been engaged in closed-door discussions with other major diamond-producing nations, including Botswana BWBW, Namibia NANA, and South Africa ZAZA.
