Amgen invests $300 million in Puerto Rico manufacturing
Amgen is investing an additional $300 million in Puerto Rico to expand its biologics facility. This move responds to new tariffs on imported branded medicines.
AMGEN INC will invest $300 million to expand its manufacturing footprint in Puerto Rico. This capital injection follows a $650 million commitment to the territory last year to support global drug distribution. The move secures Amgen's United States supply chain against 100% tariffs on imported branded pharmaceuticals.
### Insulating the Supply Chain from Tariffs Amgen is expanding its Juncos biologics facility, which currently distributes medicines to more than 60 countries. The investment responds to an executive order signed in April that imposes 100% tariffs on branded pharmaceuticals imported into the U.S. Manufacturers must produce drugs domestically or agree to government pricing deals to avoid these penalties.
