Major Tech Giants Commit Billions to AI Infrastructure
Tech giants are investing billions in AI infrastructure and chips. Amazon and Nvidia lead deals with firms like Anthropic and OpenAI to meet rising demand.
The global technology sector is witnessing an unprecedented wave of capital expenditure as major firms secure the infrastructure necessary to dominate the artificial intelligence era. Leading this charge is Amazon.com Inc, which has committed to investing up to $25 billion in the AI startup Anthropic. In return, Anthropic has pledged to spend over $100 billion over the next decade utilizing Amazon's cloud technologies.
OpenAI remains a central figure in these multi-billion-dollar arrangements. Walt Disney Co/The is investing $1 billion in the ChatGPT parent, gaining the ability to integrate iconic characters from franchises like Star Wars and Marvel into the Sora AI video generator. On the hardware front, Broadcom Inc has partnered with OpenAI to develop in-house AI processors, while AMD has agreed to a multi-year chip supply deal that includes an option for OpenAI to acquire a 10% stake in the chipmaker. Nvidia Corp is also deepening its ties, planning an investment of up to $100 billion in OpenAI while continuing to serve as a primary supplier of data center chips. Furthermore, Oracle Corp has reportedly secured a $300 billion cloud computing deal with OpenAI spanning five years. Supporting these efforts, CoreWeave Inc-Cl A signed an $11.9 billion contract with OpenAI shortly before its own initial public offering. Infrastructure expansion is also taking the form of the Stargate data center project, a joint venture between SoftBank Group Corp from Japan, OpenAI, and Oracle. This initiative, highlighted by the United States government, could see up to $500 billion in funding for AI-focused infrastructure.
