Amazon and Corning Sign Major US Fiber Optics Deal
Amazon has partnered with Corning in a multi-billion-dollar deal to increase domestic production of optical fiber for AI data centers. The initiative is expected to create 1,000 jobs in North Carolina and expand training programs for fiber optic technicians.
AMAZON.COM INC signed a multi-billion-dollar agreement with CORNING INC to expand optical fiber production in the United States. The deal follows a similar partnership between Corning and NVIDIA CORP as both companies race to secure hardware for artificial intelligence scaling. This infrastructure investment is essential for high-speed data transmission within the massive processor clusters required for generative AI.
Corning shares rose 7% morning June 8 following the announcement. Amazon did not disclose the specific financial terms of the multi-year partnership.
