Algeria Grants BP Prospecting Rights in Eastern Basin
Algeria has granted BP a new prospecting authorization in the eastern basin to assess resource potential. The move aims to attract more foreign investment.
In a move to expand its energy sector, Algeria has granted BP a new prospecting authorization for the country's eastern basin. The decision, announced by the national hydrocarbons regulator ALNAFT, is part of a strategic push to encourage exploration in regions that have historically seen limited activity.
Under the terms of the authorization, BP is permitted to carry out preliminary exploration activities, such as geological surveys and technical studies, to evaluate the potential of the area's resources. This specific type of permit is limited to assessment and does not allow for drilling or the extraction of hydrocarbons, both of which require distinct regulatory licenses.
