Anthropic is easing tensions with the United States government as it prepares for an IPO that could value the firm at $1 trillion. The relationship fractured earlier this year after the company blocked military use of its models, triggering a national security blacklist. Improving ties may bolster investor confidence ahead of the stock-market debut, PitchBook analyst Harrison Rolfes said.

### Thawing Relations After Security Blacklist The dispute began when Anthropic refused to allow the U.S. military to use its AI for domestic surveillance or autonomous weapons. In response, the Defense Department labeled the firm a supply-chain risk in March, a designation usually reserved for adversarial foreign entities. The supply-chain risk designation prevents tens of thousands of contractors from using Anthropic technology for military work.
