Afreximbank approves $10 billion plan for crisis relief
Afreximbank approved a $10 billion program on Tuesday to help African and Caribbean economies manage shocks. The program supports imports and infrastructure.
The African Export-Import Bank has officially approved a $10 billion Gulf Crisis Response Programme designed to support economies across Africa and the Caribbean as they navigate the economic fallout from the conflict in the Middle East. This substantial financial package is intended to assist member states, their central banks, and private corporations in mitigating the severe shocks currently impacting global markets.
A primary focus of the initiative is the preservation of essential imports. The bank aims to ensure that vulnerable nations can maintain access to critical supplies, including fuel, food, fertilizers, and pharmaceuticals. To support this, the programme will provide short-term foreign exchange and liquidity, helping to stabilize the procurement of energy resources such as those provided by CHENIERE ENERGY INC.
